Near East University Dental Autumn Symposium 2024

The Faculty of Dentistry at Near East University, in collaboration with the North Cyprus Association of Dental Students (NCADS), organized the Dental Autumn Symposium 2024, bringing together academics, students, and dental professionals to discuss key topics in dentistry. Held on November 22, 2024, at the Near East University AKKM Grand Hall, the symposium welcomed over 500 participants, including academicians and students from various universities, along with industry professionals.

 

The event featured diverse and engaging presentations, capturing the interest of the audience with both innovative scientific insights and practical clinical applications. Among the speakers:

  • Dr. Oğuz Ozan
    delivered a compelling presentation titled “Fully Digitalizing Implant-Supported Applications: Are Machines Replacing Human Labor?” He delved into the importance of complete digital workflows in implantology, emphasizing how advancements in digital processes allow for immediate rehabilitation. Prof. Dr. Ozan also highlighted the benefits of using monolithic zirconia restorations for strength, aesthetics, and efficiency.

 

 

  • Mehmet Dikmen
    , in his talk titled “The Equation of Creating a Natural Smile,” focused on the critical criteria for achieving aesthetics in anterior restorations. He shared valuable clinical insights and practical tips, detailing the scientific and artistic aspects of smile design that can transform patient outcomes.

 

 

 

  • Sıdıka Akdeniz
    presented “Orthognathic Surgery: Boundaries and Realities, from Smile to Airway”, showcasing the transformative impact of orthognathic surgery on patients’ psychological well-being and functional health. She discussed various surgical techniques and demonstrated how digital tools enhance predictability and precision in treatment planning and execution.

 

 

  • Tolga Yüksel
    addressed the audience with a thought-provoking presentation titled “The Most Hidden Pathologies in the Clinic.” His talk provided diagnostic and differential diagnosis tips for rare and often overlooked pathologies, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in clinical practice.

 

 

 

 

  • Berkay Hamurcu
    , a fourth-year dental student, delivered a presentation titled “Radiographic Images Mimicking Endodontic Lesions.” Berkay’s insights into accurate radiographic analysis and the challenges of distinguishing between similar conditions were met with admiration from both his peers and faculty members.

 

Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy, Vice Rector, praised the active involvement of the student association, stating: “Our goal is to empower our students to represent themselves strongly on both national and international platforms. Events like this allow them to develop leadership skills while engaging with the latest developments in the field.”

Dr. Dilan Kırmızı, Scientific and Social Activities Commission Chairperson of Faculty of Dentistry, underscored the collective effort behind the event, saying, “This symposium reflects the combined dedication of our faculty, students, and partners in shaping an environment where knowledge and professional growth go hand in hand.”

Adding to the student-driven spirit of the event, Ahmet Kayhan, President of NCADS, emphasized the association’s dedication to empowering dental students. He remarked, “Our aim is to inspire students to embrace collaboration, broaden their perspectives, and strengthen their skills in line with the evolving needs of the profession.”

Ai. Prof. DUX, the university’s AI-based academic assistant, highlighted the growing importance of technology in dentistry during the opening session. He stated, “Advances in technology not only enhance diagnosis and treatment processes but also make dental care more accessible to diverse communities. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing play a pivotal role in achieving these goals.”
