Building Global Experience Through International Exchange, Clinical Training and Research At Near East University, internationalization is an integral part of the student experience. Through a growing network of international collaborations, exchange programs, clinical placements, internships and research opportunities, students are encouraged to extend their education beyond the university campus and gain first-hand experience in different academic and professional environments. During the 2025-2026 academic year and summer 2026, students from the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine participated in international mobility programs across 28 countries. Through these experiences, students encountered different healthcare systems, academic cultures and professional practices, strengthening both their disciplinary knowledge and intercultural competencies. Near East University’s international mobility opportunities are supported through collaborations with major international student organizations, including: These partnerships provide opportunities for students to participate in international clinical training, internships, research projects, workshops and academic exchange activities. Placements generally ranged from four to eight weeks, allowing students to experience professional environments in universities, teaching hospitals, research centers, veterinary institutions, and healthcare facilities across different countries. At the same time, internationalization at NEU is built on reciprocal mobility. During the same period, the University welcomed more than 87 international students representing over 28 countries, bringing diverse academic, cultural and professional perspectives to the campus. Summer 2026 was an especially active period for international student mobility at Near East University. Through the IFMSA Exchange Program, 27 international students completed internships at NEU in July, while 24 NEU students travelled abroad for international internship opportunities. In August, a further 34 international students joined NEU, while 24 NEU students participated in clinical and research placements in partner countries. The Faculty of Dentistry also welcomed international students through the IADS network. In July, 8 international dental students participated in research activities at the Near East University Faculty of Dentistry, contributing to scientific exchange and strengthening interaction among future dental professionals. International mobility was equally active within Veterinary Medicine. Through the IVSA framework, 15 veterinary students completed internship activities at the NEU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine during the spring term, including students from Erzurum and other countries. Meanwhile, 16 NEU veterinary medicine students travelled abroad to gain international training experience. International mobility at Near East University extends beyond the health sciences. Within the Erasmus+ mobility framework, students from Romania and France joined NEU for internship experiences in different academic and professional settings. Internship activities included placements within the Hospital Emergency Department and Business Administration at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. In addition, an NEU veterinary medicine student completed a one-month mobility period at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Perugia in Italy during July-August 2026. These experiences enabled incoming and outgoing students to engage directly with different academic systems, professional environments and working practices. The geographical scope of student mobility reflects the breadth of the University's expanding international network. NEU students participated in programs in: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Romania, Türkiye, Czech Republic, Brazil, Estonia, Iraq, North Macedonia, Moldova, Oman, Croatia, Indonesia, France, Egypt, Russia, Spain, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Hungary, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Italy. Across these destinations, students were exposed to a wide spectrum of clinical and research fields, including: Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Radiology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, General Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Neurology, and Urology. Their activities included clinical observation, patient monitoring, laboratory studies, research meetings, multidisciplinary case discussions, practical training, and interaction with healthcare professionals. Beyond observing different healthcare environments, students connected their university education with professional practice and gained first-hand insight into the responsibilities and working approaches of healthcare professionals in different settings. International engagement also provided veterinary medicine students with opportunities to combine academic learning with practical experience. Students participated in academic and cultural workshops organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Animal Hospital. Through these activities, students strengthened their theoretical knowledge while gaining hands-on experience in professional settings. The combination of international mobility, practical training and cultural interaction broadened students’ educational experience and encouraged them to approach their profession from an international perspective. International mobility extends beyond travelling to another country. For NEU students, it provides an opportunity to experience new academic environments, encounter different professional approaches, communicate across cultures and develop the adaptability required for international professional life. Through their participation in international programs, students strengthened their: At the same time, incoming international students enriched the University's academic environment, creating opportunities for students and staff to exchange knowledge, experiences and perspectives on campus. The growing scale of international student mobility reflects Near East University’s increasingly connected and internationally oriented academic environment. With 87 NEU students participating in exchange and internship opportunities across 28 countries during the 2025-2026 academic year, alongside international students arriving from more than 28 countries, the University continues to strengthen the reach of its international education and training opportunities. Looking ahead, Near East University aims to further expand its international partnerships and broaden opportunities for clinical training, internships, research, Erasmus+ mobility and academic exchange.
