
In this issue, we proudly feature Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman, a recipient of the Dr. Suat Günsel Honor Award Gold Medal. Prof. Al-Turjman is a globally recognized expert in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), whose groundbreaking work and academic leadership have made a lasting impact on the scientific community. At Near East University, his contributions reflect a visionary approach to research, innovation, and education in emerging technologies.

Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman is now the Dean of AI and Informatics Faculty, and the Director of the International Research Center for AI and IoT at Near East University. He also serves as the Chairperson of the Software Engineering Department, and was the Head of the AI Engineering Department, which started with only 2 students 3 years ago and grew up to exceed the 200 students today in the AI program. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science From Queen’s University in Canada in 2011. He has received several prestigious fellowships and national and international awards and recognitions, including being ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide.
Ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists, he continues to push the boundaries of AI and IoT.
He serves as Editor-in-Chief of multiple journals and book series published by Springer Nature, Elsevier, NEU, and Taylor & Francis. His academic leadership is evident through his extensive engagement in editorial responsibilities, mentorship, and administrative roles. His career demonstrates a steadfast commitment to advancing both institutional and academic excellence.
Research Impact and Global Recognition
Prof. Al-Turjman’s research interests include generative and agentic AI, Internet of Things (IoT), mobile / web applications, next generation networks, cybersecurity, and data analytics. He has published more than 90 books and over 600 research articles in renowned journals and conferences. With more than 25,000 citations and an h-index of 84 on Google Scholar, his work is recognized worldwide.

He has delivered more than 150keynote speeches at international conferences in his field and is actively involved in leading editorial boards and scientific committees. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of several highly esteemed scientific and professional societies. His research has significantly contributed to the development of intelligent and connected environments across various domains.

Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman serves as the advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees on AI and Informatics, and as the Founding Dean for the AI and Informatics Faculty at Near East University. He also leads the Software Engineering department and the International Research Center for AI and IoT in the same faculty. He was leading the Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems Engineering, and the AI and Robotics Institute between 2021 and 2025. He is leading and organizing a number of international conferences and workshops in flagship AI and IoT research societies. With over 600 publications, more than 90 authored and/or edited books, and numerous recognitions including the 2022 Dr. Suat Günsel Lifetime Golden Award, Prof. Al-Turjman stands out as a global authority in AI, IoT, and smart systems.
