Near East University has been ranked in the 791–800 band in the QS World University Rankings 2027, placing the University among the top 800 universities in the world.
This result marks an important milestone in Near East University’s growing international visibility and reflects its continued progress in global higher education rankings. In addition to its achievement in the QS World University Rankings 2027, Near East University was previously ranked 381st among 960 institutions in Europe in the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026. The QS World University Rankings evaluate universities through a multidimensional methodology designed to measure institutional performance in research, employability, learning experience, global engagement, and sustainability.
According to QS, the methodology is organised around several performance lenses and indicators. Each indicator measures a specific aspect of university performance and contributes to the overall ranking score.
Research and Discovery
The largest component of the QS World University Rankings is Research and Discovery, which accounts for 50% of the overall score. This lens measures both the quality and volume of a university’s research activity, as well as its reputation within the global academic community.
This lens includes two indicators:
Academic Reputation – 30%
Academic Reputation is based on the views of academics worldwide and measures how institutions are perceived in terms of academic excellence, research quality, educational impact, academic partnerships, and broader contribution to higher education.
Citations per Faculty – 20%
Citations per Faculty measures the relative intensity and impact of research by calculating the number of citations achieved in relation to the number of faculty members. This indicator helps compare institutions of different sizes by considering research citation performance per academic staff member.
Employability and Outcomes
The Employability and Outcomes lens accounts for 20% of the overall score. It evaluates how well universities prepare their graduates for employment, how they are perceived by employers, and the extent to which graduates go on to make a meaningful impact in society.
This lens includes two indicators:
Employer Reputation – 15%
Employer Reputation reflects the views of employers around the world and measures how institutions are perceived in terms of producing high-quality graduates.
Employment Outcomes – 5%
Employment Outcomes evaluates graduate employability and the record of graduates who have achieved success and impact in their professional fields.
Learning Experience: The Learning Experience lens accounts for 10% of the overall score and is measured through the Faculty Student Ratio indicator.
Faculty Student Ratio: This indicator measures the number of academic staff in relation to the number of students. It is used as a proxy for the level of academic support, supervision, curriculum development, and learning resources available to students.
Global Engagement
The Global Engagement lens accounts for 15% of the overall score and reflects the international outlook of universities. It evaluates the extent to which institutions attract international students and faculty, and how actively they participate in international research networks.
This lens includes the following indicators:
International Faculty Ratio – 5%
This indicator measures the proportion of international academic staff within the institution.
International Research Network – 5%
International Research Network evaluates the diversity and sustainability of a university’s international research partnerships.
International Student Ratio – 5%
This indicator measures the proportion of international students within the institution and reflects the university’s ability to attract students from outside its own country.
Sustainability
The Sustainability indicator accounts for 5% of the overall score. It evaluates universities in relation to environmental, social, and governance-related factors, including campus sustainability, diversity initiatives, institutional governance, and the impact of research across the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The inclusion of sustainability as part of the QS World University Rankings reflects the growing importance of universities’ social and environmental responsibilities, alongside their traditional roles in education and research.
